River Resistance: Performance, Ecology and Memory at BACC

River Resistance brings the Chiang Rai International Performance Art Project 2026 to Bangkok's BACC from 13–25 October. Despite the project's name, this exhibition takes place in Bangkok, in the third-floor Exhibition Gallery.

The programme connects artistic practice with the lives and environments sustained by Southeast Asian rivers.

Rivers as lived environments

Photography, film, documentary, painting, mixed media and archival material address the Kok, Sai, Ruak, Mekong and Salween river systems. Performance is central to the project, alongside community engagement and opportunities for exchange.

Co-curated by Chakkrit Chimnok, Jeramy Hiah and Michael Barrett, the exhibition approaches environmental change through testimony and lived experience. When visiting, attend to who is speaking in a work and how its form carries that account. A photograph, an archive and a live action can offer different kinds of evidence and encounter.

Talks, workshops and performance activities are part of the project's stated approach; check individual schedules with the organiser.
