Front & Back: The Art of the Steal opens to the public at MOCA Bangkok from 11 October to 22 November 2026. Tawatchai Somkong's project brings together work by 34 artists and uses signatures to unsettle a familiar idea of authorship.
The premise is deliberately provocative: Tawatchai signs the front, while the maker signs the back, with the participants' agreement.
Who does a signature make visible?
The exhibition invites questions about attribution, ownership and the value attached to an artist's name. The language of theft belongs to the concept of this consensual project, rather than an allegation of a crime.
Look at the relationship between the visible image and the information that accompanies it. Would a different name change your expectations of the same work? The project offers an opportunity to notice those expectations before deciding whether its gesture feels playful, critical or uncomfortable.
The opening event is announced for 10 October, separately from the public exhibition period.
