Giving Life fills three floors of Dib Bangkok with works concerned with movement, transformation and the presence of an audience. Running from 26 September 2026 to 3 May 2027, the exhibition brings together 160 works by 33 artists.
Sculpture, painting, film, installation and performance extend a question that reaches beyond animation: what allows an artwork to feel alive?
Materials with more than one life
The museum places Alexander Calder's experiments with motion in a wider lineage of works that act, change or depend on an encounter with visitors. Reused machines, plants and materials carrying histories of conflict appear within that broader enquiry.
Allow time to notice change rather than treating every work as a static image. A pause can reveal a movement or relationship that a quick photograph misses. Follow staff guidance around participatory pieces: a work's interest in an audience does not automatically mean it can be touched.
The extended run allows the exhibition to anchor a return visit as well as a first introduction to the museum.
