2026 Acquisitions: Contemporary Art at RCAC Bangkok

The Office of Contemporary Art and Culture's 2026 Acquisitions exhibition continues at Ratchadamnoen Contemporary Art Center until 30 November. The presentation brings together work by 21 artists, including Rirkrit Tiravanija and Som Supaparinya.

Its organising question concerns perception: how do experience, memory and individual identity shape what we understand as reality?

A collection encountered through different eyes

An acquisitions exhibition can be approached as more than a collection of individual highlights. It provides an opportunity to compare different artistic positions and to think about what becomes visible when works are brought into a shared institutional setting.

Begin by selecting a pair of works that seem to have little in common. Compare how they ask you to look, what information they provide and what they leave open. Returning to the same work after seeing the rest of the exhibition may change your understanding of it.

The organiser places the viewer's own experience at the centre of interpretation, making this a useful visit for a conversation between people who do not necessarily share the same tastes.
