The Room We Make opens at Ming Artspace from 3 to 30 November 2026. The exhibition considers what we inherit from family and culture, and what we decide to preserve, reshape or leave behind.
Rather than treating home as an uncomplicated source of comfort, it asks how a person can make room for an identity that does not fit inherited expectations.
Objects, flowers and changing rooms
The gallery's Thai-language introduction describes inherited furniture and domestic objects as a setting for photography, painting, drawing, textiles and abstraction. Fresh flowers introduced during the preparatory period change over time, while artworks and remade flowers preserve different traces of the shared space.
The curatorial text also addresses gendered family expectations and queer experiences of belonging. These are presented as questions arising from particular social structures, not as a single account of how every family behaves.
When visiting, look for the difference between a useful object, a remembered object and an artwork. A room can carry all three at once. Ask which parts of its history feel fixed and which have been made open to change.
