Between Memory and Becoming at Tang Contemporary Bangkok

Between Memory and Becoming brings Daneenart Burakasikorn, Lewis Lee and Julia Phetra Oborne together at Tang Contemporary Art's Bangkok space from 24 October to 6 December 2026. Cynthia Liu curates the group exhibition.

The artists approach memory through different visual languages, creating a conversation about how identity develops through movement, inheritance and personal experience.

Three approaches to remembering

Daneenart's practice turns towards layered, reworked painting and emotional experience. Lewis Lee approaches landscape through migration and family history, including the Hong Kong borderlands. Oborne draws on natural forms, cultural objects and stories, using accumulation and erasure to build unsettled pictorial spaces.

For a visitor, the pleasure of this grouping lies in comparison. A fragment, a layer or a landscape can serve very different purposes from one artist to the next. Notice when a work suggests a recognisable place and when it seems closer to the way a place survives in memory.

The exhibition offers a way to think about cultural identity without reducing it to a fixed list of origins or influences.
